Is PhoneBooth free to use?

Yes. PhoneBooth is free forever. There is no login, no account, no download, and no payment required to start or join a call.

How do I start a video call?

Open https://phonebooth.dev/, enter your name, and click "New room" to generate a 6-digit room code. Share the code or the invite link with the people you want to call. They enter the code or open the link and join instantly.

Do participants need to install anything?

No. PhoneBooth runs entirely in the browser using WebRTC. Participants open the link in Chrome 90+, Edge 90+, Firefox 88+, Safari 14+, or Opera 76+.

How many people can join a call?

PhoneBooth uses a peer-to-peer mesh topology, so call quality is best for small groups of roughly 6 to 8 participants. Each participant connects directly to every other participant.

Are calls recorded or stored?

No. PhoneBooth does not record or store calls. Video and audio stream peer-to-peer between participants; only an optional, non-identifying room manifest (host peer id, display name, last-updated timestamp) is written to Neon Postgres for integrations.

Does PhoneBooth require an account or login?

No. PhoneBooth does not require an account, email, or login. You enter a display name and you are in the call.

Is PhoneBooth end-to-end encrypted?

PhoneBooth uses WebRTC with DTLS-SRTP, which encrypts media between peers. Media is not decrypted on any relay server because calls are peer-to-peer.

What features are available in a call?

Mute, camera on/off, screen sharing, raise hand, emoji reactions, in-meeting text chat, host controls (mute all, remove participant, spotlight, lock chat), keyboard shortcuts, screen reader announcements, gallery and speaker layouts, and an AI assistant panel.

Can I use PhoneBooth on my phone?

Yes. PhoneBooth works in mobile Safari and Chrome on Android and iOS. It runs entirely in the browser, so there is nothing to install.
